PoGoMaps UK – Service Closure Announcement

After 7 years, 2 months, and 12 days, the time has come for me to close PoGoMaps UK, effective today – 23/12/2025.

When Pokémon GO launched in 2016, maps were a huge part of the game. As many will remember, almost all mapping services were shut down in one sweeping move by Niantic in 2017 when the original exploit was closed. Like many others, I thought that was the end of it.

However, we later stumbled across a project that brought mapping back in a new way. That discovery led me to start mapping locally, and from there, a small community map called AYPoGo was born. What began as a short-lived local project quickly grew, and after being asked to widen the scan area, I saw the potential to help a much larger player base.

On Thursday 11th October 2018, AYPoGo officially became PoGoMaps UK. The goal was simple:

Support local communities
Help players find rare and high-IV Pokémon
Actively discourage and ban spoofers

Along the way, it also brought its fair share of controversy — but it always existed to support legitimate play.

This project could never have existed without the help of others.
Huge thanks go to oldmole, mrangrypants, choccyflakes, the scanners who donated and hosted devices, and every subscriber who contributed £2 per month to keep the service alive. Your support made this possible.

Unfortunately, recent blocks introduced by the game developers, who clearly do not want services like PoGoMaps UK to exist, have made it increasingly difficult to continue. Between ongoing technical challenges, rising overheads, and a general decline in interest in the game itself, the balance has finally tipped.

With the latest block now in place, I’ve decided that I want to enter the new year without this service continuing to dominate my time, finances, and life.

It has genuinely been a pleasure running PoGoMaps UK, and I’m incredibly proud that I was able to provide something that has helped many, many players over the years.

Subscriptions & Data Protection

All active subscriptions will be cancelled today
The website will close as of 23/12/2025

As the service is closing, all personal data stored in the PoGoMaps UK user database will be permanently destroyed with immediate effect, in line with UK GDPR requirements.

This data consists only of:

Username
Hashed password
Email address

All payment-related data is handled entirely by PayPal, and I do not store or retain this information.

Thank you to everyone who supported, contributed, scanned, subscribed, debated, and played along the way.

PoGoMaps UK has been a huge part of my life for over seven years, and I’m grateful for every minute of it.
